Quiet, emission-free, and simple enough for first-timers to operate, each boat fits up to 8 passengers and comes with a built-in stereo system. No boating license is needed. Just bring your group, board up, and cruise the calm harbor waters at your own pace. You will pass world-class yachts, historic waterfront homes, and stretches of open bay that feel a long way from the everyday.
We operate the largest kayak fleet in Orange County, with single and tandem options suitable for everyone from solo paddlers to families with young children. Our team carries the kayaks to the water on your behalf, so there is no heavy lifting or setup involved. You choose when to go, how long to stay out, and which way to paddle. The harbor offers calm, sheltered water that is ideal for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
Stand-up paddle boarding combines a full-body workout with one of the best views the harbor has to offer. Riders must be at least 12 years old, weigh between 70 and 270 lbs, and arrive 30 minutes before the tour for orientation. No prior experience is needed, and most riders are fully comfortable within the first five minutes.

Everything is available from our base on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach.
We operate the largest kayak fleet in Orange County, which means we can comfortably handle groups of any size, from a solo paddler to groups of 50 or more. Kayaks and paddle boards are available on a first-come, first-served basis for most visitors. If you are bringing a larger group, contact us directly in advance and we will make sure we are ready for you.
Families with young children tend to love the electric boat rental, where everyone can sit back and enjoy the harbor together. Single kayaks can carry a small child with a parent on board. Beach cruiser bikes are comfortable for adults and older children. Our guided tours, including the electric bike tour and the kayak and SUP tour network, are also excellent family experiences for children aged 12 and above.
Absolutely. No experience is required and almost all riders feel comfortable within the first few minutes of orientation. Participants must be at least 12 years old, weigh a minimum of 70 lbs, and a maximum of 270 lbs. Pregnant guests and those with physical disabilities that affect balance are not able to participate for safety reasons. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled tour time to complete sign-in.
With an electric bike rental, you pick up the bike and explore at your own pace with no set route or schedule. The guided electric bike tour is a structured experience led by a local guide who takes you through the highlights of the area, shares the history and stories of the peninsula, and ensures you do not miss any of the best spots. Both are great options. The guided tour is ideal if it is your first time or if you want the full local experience.
Pricing varies by equipment type and duration. Hourly rates apply for kayaks, paddle boards, beach cruisers, and electric bikes. Electric boats are priced per hour for the full vessel of up to 8 passengers. Segway tours and guided tours are priced per person. Kayaks, paddle boards, and bikes are available on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis. No reservation is required for these. Segway tours and guided tours require sign-in at least 30 minutes before departure and we recommend booking ahead, especially during peak season. Electric boat rentals can be reserved in advance through our Book Now page.
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID and a credit card. For water activities, wear comfortable clothes you do not mind getting slightly wet, and bring sunscreen and water. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for Segway tours. We provide all necessary equipment including life jackets and paddles for kayak and paddle board rentals. Beach gear is available to rent so you do not need to carry chairs or umbrellas.
All reservations are non-refundable. However, if you contact us at least 72 hours before your booking, we will issue a store credit for the full value of your reservation. This credit does not expire and can be used toward any future booking at Balboa Fun Tours. Walk-in rentals for kayaks, paddle boards, and bikes are first-come, first-served and do not require advance cancellation.
